What are the Millennium Development Goals?
At the Millennium Summit of September of 2000, which has been historically chronicled as the largest gathering of world leaders ever; The UN Millennium Declaration was signed. Through that declaration a series of deadline oriented goals were established. These goals known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) were created for the need of the global conscious to address the dire needs of those that are the most marginalized in the global commons. The end-date of these goals is 2015.
Goal 1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2. Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3. Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4. Reduce child mortality
Goal 5. Improve maternal health
Goal 6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Goal 7. Ensure environmental sustainability
Goal 8. Develop a global partnership for development
